Today we are going to explain the rest of the collagen-based supplements that Weider offers, and specifically, I am going to give you some insights into when we could use each of these collagen-based supplements. It is true that when the first collagen supplements began to appear, they were just that, collagen. Now, with time, with the clinical experience of professionals like me, who have been using this supplement for years in various situations, and thanks to research, more complete supplements have been developed, with substances that complement the action of collagen.

This post will not focus so much on what collagen is or what it is for or what types of collagen exist. You can find this information in our guide to choosing a good collagen.

Collagen

Among collagen supplements, Collagen stands out as a classic. Its composition is among the best on the market, and many brands have adopted a similar formulation. If I wanted to highlight something about Collagen, it would be its high quality and balanced proportion of its components. Of all of them, I want to emphasize Vitamin C, as it is essential for collagen to form correctly.

The collagen contribution of this product is in peptides, and the joining of peptides forms a protein; in this case, we obtain collagen. For these peptides to join correctly, we need vitamin C. On the other hand, the contribution of hyaluronic acid is another quality factor of the product. Hyaluronic acid is a polysaccharide that provides hydration and is located between cells and collagen fibers, therefore, having a fundamental structural function. In addition, hyaluronic acid is found in the joint fluid, achieving optimal lubrication to maintain the health of the joint itself. It is as if we were using oil for rusted window or door hinges. But its use is not only useful for cases where the hinge is rusted (osteoarthritis,...); its fundamental use lies in prevention.

My recommendation is to use Collagen throughout the season as a preventive measure and in cycles. By cycles, I mean that we can use it for a period of 2, 3, 4 months and then rest during moments of the season where we need to adjust other types of supplements (proteins, BCAAs,...)

Joint Collagen

Another of Weider's collagen supplements is Joint Collagen, one of the most complete products on the market. We define it as a chondroprotector, but in the broadest sense of the word, and its action, determined by its rich composition, gives it a wide range of possibilities. In this product, not only collagen is the star, but also silicon and turmeric. Its composition gives it a wide range of potential uses, which could be summarized as being indicated for both prevention and treatment.

It will help us prevent injuries, but having other possibilities, I would use Joint Collagen as a preventive measure during the period of the season when the training plan might undergo a significant change due to an increase in high-intensity training or an increase in duration.

In my opinion, where it plays an indispensable role, and this would be in combination with physiotherapy, osteopathy..., is at the time of a sports injury. An acute or chronic tendinopathy, a joint injury, or a sprain, even in muscle contractures (due to the relaxing action of magnesium, the anti-inflammatory action of turmeric...), this product cannot be missing from our supplementation. In the event of an injury, the duration of intake would have to be determined, and this should only be indicated by a health professional.
