Once we have overcome the barrier of deciding to start a diet plan aimed at a specific goal, we must know that it will not take effect just by signing up for it. In addition to the physiological factor that our coach, nutritional advisor, trainer, dietician, etc. will consider, there is the fundamental factor that makes up our work: the commitment and discipline we develop to ensure good adherence. Therefore, we are going to look at some tips for following a diet and sticking to it.

We cannot expect things to happen differently if we always continue to do the same things. So today, from Weider, we provide you with a series of tips that will be useful at a time like this, when many of you are contemplating new beginnings:

Tips for following your diet

  • Anticipate mistakes: If you already know that there are things that lead to failure, don't challenge yourself to change them; instead, present yourself with new challenges where you can do things differently. For example: if you know that if you buy food you shouldn't eat, you'll end up eating it, eliminate the temptation input instead of forcing yourself to overcome the challenge of having it at home and not eating it.
  • Organize yourself! This will ease your mind by having everything managed beforehand and will be another way to anticipate mistakes. This is one of the first tips for following a diet that you should address.
  • Change the concept of guilt to responsibility: enough with reward/punishment! You are the one who makes decisions about your life and who assumes the results. Therefore, a RESPONSIBLE person will know how to take the reins and decide on their goals in an ecological and healthy way, as well as execute them.
  • Accept if you make a mistake and move on: this is not about collecting them and using that as an excuse to stay the same, of course not! It means that if you were doing everything great and something goes wrong, that doesn't throw all your efforts out the window. If there's a stone in your path, you navigate around it! And you note the information to continue learning about the path (and especially about the traveler).
  • Recognize your merits! Reinforcing ourselves in our positive attitudes empowers us to keep repeating them. Be aware of your capabilities so you can draw on them when you need them.
  • Try to make the plan you're going to follow adapt to your life, and not your life to the plan. Objectives and behavior vary greatly if we are talking about athletes, competitors, elite individuals, etc. But if, in addition to the "stress" that a change can cause you, you force yourself to radically change your entire life around it, it is highly probable that you will end up giving up. If you integrate what you do into your daily life, it will flow much more naturally and it will be easier to turn it into a habit.

Having a clear idea of your goal is fundamental, otherwise, you will be changing every so often and won't achieve any goal.

  • Be creative, be practical! You don't have to give up the pleasure of eating. Nowadays, the possibilities are much more flexible, and becoming creative will make you feel more enthusiastic about your purpose.
  • Manage your motivation! Make this for and by you! It's always good to lean on someone else as a complement, but not as support. Hold on to all the variables you can manage, and the rest will be positive reinforcements!
  • Go to an expert: put yourself in the hands of someone who can apply all their knowledge to you and can give you the support and answers you need without the emotional involvement you might have if you do it yourself. Committing to someone from that place will also help you move forward.
  • Remember that the door to change opens from within. Decide for yourself, start for yourself, and continue for yourself.
  • Don't procrastinate: Don't put your training and diet duties behind any other eventuality. Make them part of your daily agenda as an irrevocable commitment.
  • Make a list of the causes you believe may have led you to fail and turn them into learning opportunities, generating your own tools.
  • Make another list of the virtues you possess that can help you achieve it.

These are the tips for following a diet that we recommend. One last piece of advice: although the journey is yours, you will go further with company. We are here to help you succeed!
